The nearby island of Miyajima also provides one of the most iconic views in the country and the famous 'floating shrine' of the Torii gate. A tiny gem set in the heart of the tranquil waters of the Inland Sea, the island of Miyajima has long been considered a haven of peace and tranquillity. Home to the venerable shrine of Itsukushima, with its landmark gate that rises majestically from the surrounding waters, this setting is blessed with what is probably one of the finest views in all Japan.
